Adelaide families have lined up at the gates of the Adelaide Zoo on Frome Road for the start of school holidays this Monday.
July temperatures often drop below 15 degrees in the city, pushing households toward structured programs rather than spontaneous beach trips. Local councils and cultural institutions have responded with timetabled sessions that run through the end of the month.
The South Australian Museum on North Terrace offers daily fossil-handling workshops for ages five to twelve, with sessions at 10am and 2pm. Staff report that bookings for the first week reached capacity within three days of opening online registration. At the same time, the Adelaide Botanic Garden on Plane Tree Drive runs a drop-in craft corner inside the Bicentennial Conservatory each weekday afternoon, supplying materials for leaf-printing projects.
Attendance figures from last July showed 4,200 children took part in similar museum and garden activities across the two-week break, according to city council records.
Parents can check availability on the venues' websites before heading out, as several sessions require advance booking. Entry to the zoo remains $38 for adults and $22 for children aged three to fifteen, with family passes at $98 covering two adults and up to three children. Sessions at the museum and garden are free once general admission is paid.
