Adelaide Homeowners Pay $5,000-$15,000 for Solar Panel Systems

Solar Panel Installation Costs in Adelaide 2026

Adelaide and South Australia have some of the world's highest rooftop solar penetration rates, driven by high electricity prices (historically the highest in Australia), excellent solar radiation, and early state government support for renewable energy. SA's grid is also a world leader in renewable energy integration, with periods of 100% renewable operation now routine. This guide covers what solar costs in Adelaide in 2026.

Typical Solar Installation Costs in Adelaide 2026

• 6.6kW system: $4,500-$7,500 after federal STCs
• 10kW system: $7,000-$11,500 after STCs
• Battery storage (10kWh): $10,000-$15,000 installed; Home Battery Scheme may apply

SA Solar Rebates and Incentives 2026

• Federal STCs: The primary national solar subsidy; reduces system cost by $2,000-$4,000+
• SA Home Battery Scheme (Subsidised Loans): SA's home battery scheme (administered through Plenti and other lenders) offers subsidised or low-interest loans for battery storage; confirm current program availability with the SA government or your installer
• SA feed-in tariff: SA electricity retailers pay feed-in tariff rates for surplus solar; compare offers from SA Power Networks retailers including AGL SA, Origin SA, and others

Adelaide Solar Considerations

• Adelaide's excellent solar radiation (typically 5.5+ peak sun hours/day) means solar systems are highly productive; a well-sized system can offset a very high proportion of household electricity consumption
• Adelaide's hot summers drive high air conditioning loads; a battery system paired with solar allows households to store daytime solar for afternoon and evening cooling
• SA's Virtual Power Plant programs (Tesla VPP, AGL VPP, and others) allow households with batteries to earn additional income by participating in grid stability services

How to Choose a Solar Installer in Adelaide

• Use only CEC-accredited installers
• Check CBS SA (Consumer and Business Services) electrical contractor registration
• Adelaide's experienced solar market means many installers have 10+ years of experience; ask for their portfolio of installations and references
